Our History

Our story begins in 1927, when my late grandfather, Patre K Shivappaiya, embarked on a remarkable journey. With a vision and a passion for coffee, he acquired this very land, then partly a jungle. With unwavering dedication, he began clearing the land and planting the first coffee seeds in early 1929. Patience and perseverance became our guiding principles as we nurtured these young trees, finally welcoming the first harvest in 1934.

The legacy then passed to my father, who continued to care for the estate with the same dedication. In 1989, the torch was passed to me, and I've had the privilege of carrying forward the Ratnagiri Estate tradition ever since.

Over the years, Ratnagiri Estate has transformed into a thriving coffee haven. We are committed to honoring the legacy of those who came before us, while constantly innovating and striving for excellence. Through generations of passion and hard work, we have become one of India's leading specialty coffee producing farm.

Ratnagiri Estate is nestled in the Western Ghats of South India. As part of a tiger reserve, we peacefully coexist with the rich wildlife, contributing to the biodiversity and sustainability of the region.

Our journey into coffee exports began in 1994, following the liberalization of exports by the Indian government. Since then, we have been exporting our coffees to markets in the U.S., Europe, Australia, Japan, and the Middle East. Today, we cater to the specialty coffee market worldwide, producing high-quality processed coffees with distinct flavor profiles.

Our Coffee

At Ratnagiri, our focus is unwavering: to produce high-quality, high-end specialty coffees with distinct flavor profiles. Since 2015, we have been on a transformative journey, gradually shifting our entire production from commercial and entry-level specialty to higher and highest specialty coffee. Today, we are proud to say that our production is almost entirely dedicated to specialty coffee.

We believe that this approach is the only sustainable path for the long run. Our success is rooted in innovation and a scientific foundation, which underpin our entire process. Ashok Patre

My journey at Ratnagiri Estate began in 1989 when I took over the farm. The initial years were dedicated to replanting the entire estate with new varietals. From 2000 to 2014-15, we focused on nurturing these young plants. By 2016, we had ventured into specialty coffee, producing our first honey-processed and natural coffee.

With three decades of dedicated service, Mr. Venkatesh Rao is the backbone of Ratnagiri Estate's operations. He efficiently handles office administration, manages the staff, and machinery operations. His extensive experience and commitment ensure the seamless functioning and high standards of our estate, making him an invaluable asset to our team.

Mr. Mahesh, with 30 years of dedicated service at Ratnagiri Estate, is our experienced Farm Supervisor. He skillfully manages the staff and oversees all farm operations. His extensive experience and dedication ensure the smooth functioning and high productivity of our estate.
